Claire Nelson is the Practising Principal of Goodlet Nelson Legal, bringing more than 20 years’ experience in financial services, regulatory, risk and compliance to her legal practice.
Claire was admitted as a lawyer in South Australia in December 2022. Before establishing Goodlet Nelson Legal, she held senior leadership positions across major financial services organisations, including Zip Co, Westpac BT Financial Group, NAB MLC, AMP and Deutsche Bank.
Her career has focused on the intersection of law, regulation and business. She has extensive experience interpreting and applying complex legislation, advising executives and boards on legal and regulatory obligations, managing regulatory risk and compliance frameworks, overseeing breach and remediation programs, and engaging with regulators including ASIC and AUSTRAC.
Most recently, Claire was Director of Compliance at Zip Co, where she led legal and regulatory compliance across Australia and New Zealand. She has also held senior roles involving superannuation, financial services, consumer credit and operational risk.
This extensive commercial and regulatory experience gives Claire a practical understanding of the challenges faced by individuals and businesses when navigating complex legal and regulatory environments. She combines legal knowledge with a strong understanding of how organisations operate, with a focus on providing clear, practical and commercially informed advice.
Claire has a particular interest in regulatory and financial services law, superannuation and veterans’ entitlements, governance, compliance and risk.
She has served on various not for profit boards, reflecting her ongoing commitment to community and advocacy.
